Maria Hoey along with her brother Peter, are working illustrators. Their art appears regularly in newspapers, magazines, and advertising worldwide.
Since 2007 they have been creating comics under the name Coin-Op. Beautifully designed, Coin-Op books explore themes of music, film, pop culture and the absurd. From single story comics about music that resemble 45-rpm sleeves to larger full color anthologies, each of their books explores the possibilities of sequential-art narrative while maintaining a high level of craft and composition.
Their work has been included in several issue of The Best American Comics series and won the Award of Excellence at New York’s MoCCA Arts Festival ( 2017 and 2018).
A 20-year collection of their work: COIN-OP COMICS ANTHOLOGY 1997-2017, published by Top Shelf Productions in 2018, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly.
Their early comics appeared in many issues of the legendary Blab! Magazine.
Peter and Maria are hard at work on their next issue of Coin-Op as well as their first full length graphic novel.
